These are the commonly cited safe picks, each with a documented reason: John Wick's long takes are credited with ending the shaky-cam era, Mad Max: Fury Road center-frames its 2,700 cuts so your eyes never hunt, Trollhunter and Europa Report are the found footage films reviewers name as the steady exceptions, Paranormal Activity mostly sits on a tripod, Children of Men rides engineered rigs, and Warfare carries its intensity in sound, not shake.

Cinema formats and dome venues, from still seats to moving ones
The same film can be a gentle watch or a physical event depending on the room. Two formats move your body, and Sphere adds seat haptics; the rest change what your eyes take in. Each page reports the operator's own guidance where one exists.
Does 4DX cause motion sickness?
Moves your bodyIt can, and the operators say so themselves: Cineplex's 4DX safety policy lists persons prone to motion sickness among those for whom the presentations may not be suitable, alongside pregnancy, heart, back and neck conditions and epilepsy.
Can IMAX cause motion sickness?
It can amplify it: IMAX screens are engineered to fill your field of view, and motion in peripheral vision is the classic trigger for visually induced motion sickness.
Is IMAX 70mm more likely to cause motion sickness than digital IMAX?
Only insofar as the image is taller: 1.43:1 film fills the screen top to bottom, reaching further into your peripheral vision than 1.90:1 digital.
Does ScreenX cause motion sickness?
No operator warning says so, and we found none to quote, but the format works by filling peripheral vision, which is the established trigger channel for visually induced motion sickness.
Does D-BOX cause motion sickness?
Moves your bodyIt adds real seat motion, so it can affect motion-sensitive viewers, but its documented distinction is the in-seat intensity control: per D-BOX's own guide, moviegoers decide for themselves just how much they want to feel.
Is Dolby Cinema safe for people who get motion sick at IMAX or 4DX?
It removes both of those formats' mechanisms: no motion seats, and a conventionally proportioned screen rather than a field-of-view-filling one.
Why does RealD 3D make some people feel sick?
The vergence-accommodation conflict: the glasses make your eyes converge on objects at varying apparent depths while your focus stays locked at the physical screen distance.
Does high frame rate cause motion sickness?
High frame rate has drawn motion sickness reports from some viewers, mostly at showings that pair it with 3D.
Does the Sphere make you motion sick?
Seat hapticsIt can for some visitors: Sphere's FAQ does not name motion sickness, but it lists seat haptics and movement sensations among its effects and says they may aggravate some conditions.
Does Cosm make you motion sick?
It can: Cosm's help center says content with fast motion or sensory elements on its large displays may cause dizziness or symptoms associated with motion sickness.
Where the techniques came from
The lineage is older than the complaints. The Battle of Algiers (1966) pioneered the handheld newsreel look that war films still borrow; Man Bites Dog (1992) ran a whole film on a crew-carried camera; and the Dogme 95 films (Festen, The Idiots) codified the unstabilized style Lars von Trier carried into Breaking the Waves and Melancholia. 2001: A Space Odyssey drew famous walkouts for its trip sequence. We probed each for attributed motion sickness reports and found none that meet this page's bar, so they stand here as history, not as cases.
