Why Shadow of the Tomb Raider can trigger motion sickness
The camera follows Lara through jungle, caves, climbing and underwater swimming, so it is often moving and turning. The game adds camera shake, and on PC it can blur parts of the scene with Depth of Field and put blood, dirt and water effects on screen. The developers' own accessibility list includes a way to reduce the camera shake and a camera that stays centered on Lara's back.
- Camera shake during action, which can be reduced
- A camera you steer yourself while Lara climbs, swims and fights
- Depth of Field blur and on-screen effects such as blood, dirt and water on PC

Comfort settings in Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Reduce camera shake | In-game settings | Turn it on. The developers list it among the game's accessibility options |
| Center camera horizontally | In-game settings | Try it if steering the camera makes you queasy. It soft locks the camera on Lara's back, and you can still move it with the other stick |
| Aim sensitivity | In-game settings | Lower it so the view turns more slowly when you aim |
| Depth of Field | In-game settings | On PC, set it to Off so the scene stays sharp. NVIDIA's guide shows High, Normal and Off |
| Screen Effects | In-game settings | On PC, turn it off to remove blood, dirt and water effects from the screen |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

- Take a break at the first sign of nausea and look at something still and far away
- A drug-free sound-therapy app like Dizzout is designed to help once symptoms have started, through the headphones you already use.
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Can you turn off camera shake in Shadow of the Tomb Raider?
You can reduce it. The developers' accessibility post on Steam lists "Reducing Camera Shake" as an option. It does not say whether the shake can be removed completely.
Does Shadow of the Tomb Raider have a field of view setting?
We could not confirm one. The official posts and NVIDIA's PC settings guide we read do not list a field of view option for normal play. Photo Mode has its own Field of View control for screenshots.
How do I lock the camera behind Lara in Shadow of the Tomb Raider?
The developers list an option to center the camera horizontally so it is soft locked on Lara's back. You can then move with one stick and still use the other stick to move the camera.
Can you turn off depth of field in Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PC?
Yes. NVIDIA's graphics guide compares High, Normal and Off for Depth of Field. It also says Screen Effects adds blood, flares, dirt and water to the screen and can be turned off.
