Why Hogwarts Legacy can trigger motion sickness
The camera trails your character and turns on its own to face the way you move. Screen effects add blur and grain on top, and camera shake adds more movement. Each of those can be switched off or turned down, so the fix is a settings visit rather than a workaround.
- Screen effects: motion blur, chromatic aberration, depth of field and film grain
- Camera shake, which can be set from 100% to 0%
- A follow camera that turns on its own to face your direction of travel

Comfort settings in Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy ships a full set of comfort settings.
The display toggles are not the same on every platform. Warner Bros. Games says Nintendo Switch can toggle depth of field only, and Nintendo Switch 2 can toggle depth of field and motion blur. Chromatic aberration and film grain are not listed for either.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Motion Blur | Settings > Display Options | Off. It blurs fast camera movements and rapidly moving objects |
| Chromatic Aberration | Settings > Display Options | Off. It emulates the colour fringe of a real camera lens |
| Depth of Field | Settings > Display Options | Off. The only one of these toggles that Nintendo Switch offers |
| Film Grain | Settings > Display Options | Off. It adds grain over the whole image |
| Field of View | Settings > Display Options | Widen it with the slider (confirmed on PC) |
| Camera Shake | Settings > Accessibility Options | Turn it down. The slider runs from 100% to 0% |
| Follow Camera Speed | Settings > Gameplay Options | Try a lower value so the camera turns less on its own |
| Camera Sensitivity and Camera Acceleration | Settings > Gameplay Options | Lower both so turns start and stop more gently |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Change the display effects and camera shake in one visit, then play a full session before you judge
- Lower camera sensitivity and acceleration so your own turns are slower and smoother
- Look at a still point away from the screen and slow your breathing if queasiness starts
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Does Hogwarts Legacy have a motion blur or camera shake setting?
Yes. Warner Bros. Games lists toggles for motion blur, chromatic aberration, depth of field and film grain, and a camera shake slider from 100% to 0%. On Nintendo Switch only depth of field can be toggled. On Switch 2 depth of field and motion blur can.
Can I change the field of view in Hogwarts Legacy?
On PC, yes. PCGamingWiki lists the in-game range as -20 to +20, and the Hogwarts Legacy wiki lists a Field of View slider under Display Options. No source checked confirms a field of view slider on consoles.
Why does Hogwarts Legacy make me feel sick?
The camera follows your character and turns on its own to face your direction of travel. Blur, grain and camera shake add motion on top. Turn off the screen effects, turn camera shake down and lower Follow Camera Speed first.
