Is the Verde Island Passage rough? What to expect on the crossing

Sometimes, and mostly in two seasons: December to January and July to September. Wave reanalysis data (ERA5) puts the mean daily maximum wave height between 0.3 and 0.5 m through the year, highest from December to January and in August. The data comes from a coarse grid, so it smooths over local chop between Batangas and Mindoro.

Why does the Verde Island Passage get rough?

The Verde Island Passage is a strait between Luzon and Mindoro, and a network of ferry routes crosses it to link Batangas, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro and Romblon. The Philippines has a rainy season from June to October with the southwest monsoon (Habagat) and a cool dry season from November to February with the northeast monsoon (Amihan).
