Descenders (and Descenders Next) Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
Descenders is a fast downhill bike game where the camera wobbles at speed. A developer said in 2019 that these speed wobbles are a feature, and in 2020 a developer said the first-person field of view cannot be changed. Players say you can switch between several camera views, including first person. Descenders Next, the newer game in Early Access, brought back the first-person view and added motion blur.

Why Descenders (and Descenders Next) can trigger motion sickness
The camera shakes as the bike speeds up, and the developers describe that as part of the game. In 2021 a developer wrote that they could understand why it might be too much shake and passed the request to the programmers. The first-person view has no field of view option, and the developers also joke that the going-upside-down parts would make a VR mode sickening. Switching the camera view is the one control the sources document.
- Camera wobble at speed, which the developers call a feature of the game
- A first-person view with no field of view or camera position option
- Flips and upside-down moments, which the developers cite when explaining why they are wary of VR

Comfort settings in Descenders (and Descenders Next)
Descenders (and Descenders Next) has no field of view control.
Descenders has no first-person field of view option: a developer told a player in 2020 that changing the field of view or the first-person camera position is not possible. It has no camera shake toggle either. A developer said in 2019 that the speed wobbles are a feature and that a mutator you can earn during a run reduces them. A developer said in 2021 that a request for less shake would be passed to the programmers.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Camera view | In a ride: V on keyboard, Y on an Xbox controller | Cycle through the views. A player reports the shake does not affect every third-person view |
| Motion blur and depth of field | In-game settings | Turn both off if your graphics settings list them. Players name both there, and the developers do not document them |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Cycle through the camera views on a short run and keep the one that feels steadiest
- Look for the mutator that reduces speed wobble during a run, as the developers describe
- Look at something still and far away until it passes, and try slow breathing

Frequently asked questions
Can I turn off camera shake in Descenders?
Not with a setting that the sources show. A developer said in 2019 that the speed wobbles are a feature and that one mutator you can earn during a run reduces them. In 2021 a developer said they would pass a request for less shake to the programmers.
Can I change the field of view in Descenders?
A developer answered a player in 2020 that raising the first-person field of view or changing the camera position is not possible. In October 2025 a player asked for an option to limit how much the field of view changes when going fast. The sources opened show no slider.
Does Descenders Next have comfort settings?
Descenders Next is a separate game, in Early Access on Steam since July 2025. Its developers said in 2025 that the first-person view was coming back, and a later update's notes list motion blur as added. The sources opened do not document its comfort settings, so check the menu in the game.
