ULTRAKILL Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
ULTRAKILL is a very fast first-person shooter built on sliding, dashing and wall jumps, and its options menu has a real set of motion controls. You can set screenshake anywhere from 0 to 200 percent, turn off the camera tilt, change the field of view from 45 to 160, switch on Reduce HUD Motion and disable the motion effects in a handful of levels. The one gap is view bob, which the community wiki lists no option for.

Why ULTRAKILL can trigger motion sickness
Constant sliding, dashing and jumping keep your eyes on a view that slams from direction to direction while your inner ear feels you sitting still. That mismatch is what motion sickness is. On top of that, heavy hits shake the camera, the view tilts slightly toward the way you are moving, and the weapon and HUD sway with your speed. Each of those has its own control, and they are quick to find.
- Sliding, dashing and wall jumps at speed
- Screenshake from heavy hits, which is at 100 percent by default
- Camera tilt toward your movement and weapon and HUD sway, both on by default

Comfort settings in ULTRAKILL
ULTRAKILL ships a full set of comfort settings.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshake | Options > General > General > Screen | Set it to 0 percent to turn it off. The slider runs from 0 to 200 and defaults to 100 |
| Camera Tilt | Options > General > General > Screen | Turn it off. The community wiki says disabling it may help with motion sickness |
| Reduce HUD Motion | Options > Customization > HUD > General | Turn it on, so the HUD and your weapon stop swaying with your speed. Added in April 2026 |
| Field of View | Options > General > Graphics > General | Adjust it in small steps. The range is 45 to 160 and the default is already wide at 105 |
| Look Sensitivity | Options > General > Controls > General | Lower it so each mouse or stick move turns the view less. The default is 50 |
| Disable Heat Waves | Options > General > Graphics > Performance | Turn it on to remove the heat distortion in hot areas |
| Advanced Options (level-specific motion effects) | Options > General > General > Misc > Advanced Options | Turn on the switches for the levels that bother you, such as the water in 5-2, the 8-4 arena and the P-2 red tunnel |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Change screenshake, camera tilt and HUD motion before your first run, then judge them over a full level
- Take a break after each level and look at something still and far away at the first queasy signal
- Sit further from the screen so the picture fills less of your view
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce screen shake in ULTRAKILL?
Open Options, go to General, then the Screen section, and set Screenshake to 0 percent. The community wiki says the slider runs from 0 to 200 percent, defaults to 100 and stops screenshake entirely at 0. While you are there, turn off Camera Tilt.
Does ULTRAKILL have a motion sickness setting?
Several. Screenshake, Camera Tilt, Reduce HUD Motion, a field of view slider from 45 to 160 and a Disable Heat Waves toggle all cut motion. Advanced Options adds switches for specific levels. The community wiki lists no switch for view bob or weapon bob, although the patch notes confirm both exist.
Which ULTRAKILL levels have motion options?
The patch notes name an option to make the 8-4 arena static, one to stop the scrolling textures in the P-2 red tunnel and a universal heat distortion switch. The community wiki also lists switches for the water in 5-2. They sit in Advanced Options, in the General options.
