SnowRunner Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps

SnowRunner puts you in a heavy truck on rough ground, with a chase view or a cockpit view. The game has a field of view setting that runs from 80 to 130 and a motion blur setting, and Steam lists it with the Camera Comfort tag. The developers do not publish a guide to the menus, so this page covers what is documented and flags the rest.

Why SnowRunner can trigger motion sickness

Mud, slopes and rocks throw the truck around while you sit still. Your eyes see the view tilt and bounce, and your inner ear feels none of it. That mismatch is what motion sickness is. The cockpit view puts the dashboard and windscreen in your eyeline, which makes the movement hard to ignore. One Steam player describes the camera tilting side to side on hills and making them dizzy, and says they found no camera option for it in the settings. The two settings that are documented, field of view and motion blur, are the ones to try first.

  • Cockpit view bouncing and tilting over rough terrain and hills
  • Motion blur, if you leave it on
  • Long, slow drives where mild queasiness builds before you notice it

Comfort settings in SnowRunner

SnowRunner ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.

SettingWhereRecommendation
Field of viewIn-game settingsRaise it above the minimum of 80 in small steps. The range is 80 to 130
Motion blurIn-game settingsTurn it off

One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings

  • Try the chase view instead of the cockpit view when the ground is rough
  • Sit further from the screen so the picture fills less of your view
  • Stop at the first queasy signal, and look at something still and far away until it passes

The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.

Frequently asked questions

Does SnowRunner have a field of view setting?

Yes. PCGamingWiki lists a field of view range of 80 to 130 for the first-person and third-person cameras. The developers do not document where the slider sits, so open the options and look in the video settings first. Editing the video.dat config file can push the value further, but that is an unofficial route, so back up the file first.

Why does SnowRunner make me dizzy?

The truck pitches and rolls over rough ground while you sit still, and the cockpit view shows all of it from the driver's seat. Your eyes read movement your inner ear does not feel. A narrow field of view and motion blur add to it. Raise the field of view, turn motion blur off, and switch to the chase view when the terrain gets rough.

Is there a motion blur setting in SnowRunner?

Yes. The developer's 28.0 patch notes refer to the Motion Blur settings, so the option exists. Turn it off if the view smears when you turn or crest a hill. The notes do not give the menu path.
