Once Human Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
Once Human is an open-world survival shooter that started as third-person only. The July 9, 2026 update added a first-person mode. In its version 3.0.4 notes, Starry Studio says players who experience 3D motion sickness can lower the Screen Shake Intensity option in Settings.

Why Once Human can trigger motion sickness
First person puts the camera at eye level, so melee swings and weapon movement move the whole view. The developer wrote that continuous multi-hit attacks caused significant shaking of the camera and actions, which can easily lead to discomfort, and it redesigned melee for first person. Third-person play is still there, and on PC Alt+C switches views.
- First-person melee and weapon movement, where the whole view moves with each action
- Screen shake feedback on hits and weapon fire
- Weapon camera shake in first-person and over-the-shoulder views

Comfort settings in Once Human
Once Human ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
The developer's posts name a field of view setting for the first-person camera only. No source opened lists a motion blur or head bob setting.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Screen Shake Intensity | Settings | Lower it. The developer says players who get 3D motion sickness can do this. |
| First-Person Camera Field of View (FOV) | Settings | Widen it a little at a time if the first-person view feels closed in. |
| Distance between the model and the camera | Settings | Test a few values and keep the one that feels calmer. |
| Default camera view | Settings | Set third-person as the default if first person is the trigger. On PC, Alt+C switches views. |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Switch to third-person with Alt+C on PC if first person is the trigger.
- Lower Screen Shake Intensity before long fights, since the developer points to it for motion sickness.
- Take breaks, stop at the first queasy signal, and look at a still point far away.
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Does Once Human have a first-person mode?
Yes. The developer added it with the July 9, 2026 update. Third-person play remains, and the developer says the original third-person melee is unchanged. On PC, Alt+C switches between the two views.
How do I reduce screen shake in Once Human?
Lower the Screen Shake Intensity option in Settings. The version 3.0.4 notes say first-person shake follows this option, and that players who experience 3D motion sickness can lower it as needed.
Can I change the field of view in Once Human?
The developer says you can adjust the first-person camera field of view in Settings. Its October 2026 notes call the setting First-Person Camera Field of View (FOV). No source opened lists a field of view setting for the third-person camera.
