Control Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
Control is Remedy's 2019 third-person action game. It launched with strong motion blur and no way to turn it off. Patch 1.03 in September 2019 added on and off toggles for Motion Blur and Film Grain in the Options menu. A March 2025 PC update added an FOV scaling setting for the gameplay camera. The October 2025 console notes for the same update do not list it. Checked October 2026.

Why Control can trigger motion sickness
Control is played from a third-person view, and you fight with a gun and psychokinetic powers such as levitation. At launch, Rock, Paper, Shotgun called the motion blur effect rather strong, and there was no option to turn it off. Remedy added Motion Blur and Film Grain toggles in patch 1.03. On PC, the March 2025 update 1.30 added FOV scaling for the gameplay camera. The sources opened do not list a camera shake or head bob setting.
- Motion blur, which was strong at launch and can now be turned off
- Third-person combat with a gun and psychokinetic powers
- A view you can only adjust on PC in the sources opened, through FOV scaling
