THE FINALS Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
THE FINALS is a fast first-person shooter with real controls for blur and view. Embark Studios reworked its motion blur settings in Season 9 in December 2025. The rework added a Weapon Only mode and an intensity slider. Lens distortion has its own switch in the Video section of the Settings menu, and the field of view is adjustable on PC. We found no camera shake or head bob switch.

Why THE FINALS can trigger motion sickness
Steam describes the game as a free-to-play FPS game show with fast-paced team action and unscripted destruction, so the picture is rarely still. Motion blur smears the scene when you turn, and lens distortion bends the edges of the view. Embark made blur adjustable in Season 9, with a mode that blurs only the weapon and hands, which lets you keep some effect without blurring the world. Camera shake from firing is set weapon by weapon in the patch notes, and we found no switch for it.
- Fast-paced first-person combat with unscripted destruction
- Motion blur and lens distortion over a moving camera
- Camera shake when you fire, tuned weapon by weapon

Comfort settings in THE FINALS
THE FINALS ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
We found no camera shake or head bob switch in THE FINALS. Camera shake from firing is tuned weapon by weapon in the patch notes, for example a cut of about 50 percent for the LH1 in Update 9.9.0, and we found no option to turn it off.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Motion Blur Mode and intensity | Settings > Video | Off. If you want some blur, pick Weapon Only and keep the intensity slider low |
| Lens Distortion | Settings > Video | Off |
| Field of View | In-game settings | Raise it. PCGamesN says it comes preset well below 100 and suggests turning it all the way up |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- In the video settings, turn Motion Blur Mode off or to Weapon Only, and turn Lens Distortion off, before your first round.
- On PC, raise the field of view in small steps, and sit farther from the screen.
- Take a break between rounds, and stop at the first queasy signal.
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Does THE FINALS have motion sickness settings?
It has blur and view controls. The video settings include a Motion Blur Mode with a Weapon Only option and an intensity slider, plus a Lens Distortion setting, and PC players can change the field of view. We found no camera shake or head bob switch.
What does Weapon Only motion blur do in THE FINALS?
Embark's Season 9 notes say the new Weapon Only mode applies blur only to the first-person weapon and hands, and that a slider adjusts the blur intensity.
Can I change the field of view in THE FINALS?
On PC, yes. PCGamesN says Field of View comes preset well below 100 and sets it to 100 in its guide. We could not confirm where the slider sits in the menus.
