Stranded Deep Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps

Stranded Deep is a first-person survival game set on islands in the Pacific, with swimming, rafts, boats and a gyrocopter. Beam Team's patch notes show a field of view value in the graphics settings, a third-person mode under Camera View Mode in the general settings tab, and a motion blur effect that can be enabled. We did not find a head bob setting in the patch notes we read. Checked October 2026.

Why Stranded Deep can trigger motion sickness

Much of the game happens on or under the water. You dive for wrecks, sail rafts with boat motors and fly a gyrocopter, while storms bring large ocean waves. A moving horizon and bobbing water are classic motion sickness triggers. Beam Team added a third-person mode in 2018, and the field of view can be changed in the graphics settings.

  • Ocean waves and storms, seen from rafts and boats
  • Swimming and diving underwater
  • Flying the gyrocopter
  • Motion blur, if it is enabled

Stranded Deep ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.

SettingWhereRecommendation
Field of viewGraphics settingsRaise it a few steps at a time and test each change on the water
Camera View ModeGeneral settings tabTry the third-person mode if first person makes you queasy. Beam Team said some third-person animations were experimental when it was added
Motion blurIn-game settingsTurn it off if it is on. The patch notes show the effect can be enabled but not where the option sits
Mouse sensitivityIn-game settingsLower it so the view turns more slowly

One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings

  • Raise the field of view in the graphics settings before your first long trip on the water
  • Switch Camera View Mode to third person if first person bothers you
  • Keep motion blur off
  • Stay on land during storms when you can, and take breaks after long dives or flights
  • A drug-free sound-therapy app like Dizzout is designed to help once symptoms have started, through the headphones you already use.

The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
