Why iRacing can trigger motion sickness
A cockpit view fills a large part of your vision with a car that moves and a wheel that turns. A field of view that does not match your screen makes speed read differently from what your body feels, and motion blur adds smear on top. iRacing lets you set the field of view, set blur on each camera, and choose how the steering wheel is drawn.
- Motion blur on the camera you race with, which is set per camera
- A field of view that does not match your screen size and seating distance
- Cockpit cameras that show the steering wheel turning

Comfort settings in iRacing
iRacing ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Field of View slider | Graphics options | Set it to match your screen size and distance. iRacing also has an FOV calculator in Settings, and its notes say the calculator takes imperial or metric measurements. |
| Motion blur (per camera) | Camera Tool, from the button on the Session screen or with Ctrl-F12 | Lower it on each camera you use. iRacing says the value is set on a per-camera basis. |
| Steering wheel mode | Graphics options | Try the static modes if the turning wheel bothers you. iRacing's notes name "static steering wheel" and "Static with Display". |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Set the field of view with the FOV calculator before your first race, then judge it over a full session
- Lower motion blur on the camera you use most in the Camera Tool
- End the session at the first sign of queasiness, look at a fixed point away from the screen and slow your breathing
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Does iRacing have motion blur settings?
Yes, for each camera. The 2023 Season 1 Patch 3 notes say a new control in the Camera Tool increases or decreases the amount of motion blur on that camera, and the value is set per camera.
Where is the iRacing field of view slider?
iRacing's release notes place the Field of View slider in the Graphics Options Menu. They also mention an FOV calculator in Settings.
How do I open the Camera Tool in iRacing?
Since 2025 Season 4 it has a dedicated button on the Session screen. The Ctrl-F12 binding is still available.
