Dying Light (2015) Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps

This page covers the original 2015 Dying Light, not Dying Light 2, which has its own page and its own Head Bob Reduction slider. The original gives you an in-game field of view setting, a film grain switch added in 2015 and a chromatic aberration switch added in 2016. It has no documented head bob toggle, and a December 2025 Steam post was still asking how to turn the head bobbing off.

Why Dying Light (2015) can trigger motion sickness

First-person parkour sends your eyes continuous vaulting, climbing and falling while your inner ear feels you sitting still. That mismatch is what motion sickness is. The head bob that rides on every step is the part a December 2025 Steam post names, and the original game has no documented switch for it. The options that exist, field of view, film grain and chromatic aberration, cut the visual noise around the motion instead.

  • First-person parkour: vaulting, ledge grabs and long drops, continuously
  • Head bob on every step, with no documented switch
  • Film grain, chromatic aberration and motion blur layered over fast movement

Comfort settings in Dying Light (2015)

Dying Light (2015) ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.

No head bob toggle is documented for the original Dying Light, and a December 2025 Steam post still asks how to turn it off. The Head Bob Reduction slider belongs to Dying Light 2. PCGamingWiki describes a config edit that raises the field of view beyond the in-game limit, which is unofficial, so back up the file first.

SettingWhereRecommendation
Field of viewIn-game settingsRaise it in small steps. The in-game setting goes up to 75 degrees vertical, about 107 horizontal on a 16:9 monitor
Motion blurIn-game settingsTurn it off
Chromatic aberrationIn-game settingsTurn it off. A toggle was added in patch 1.11.1
Film grainIn-game settingsTurn it off. An option to disable it was added in patch 1.4.0

One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings

  • Run rooftops in shorter stints, and stop at safe zones rather than mid-chase
  • Walk through dense interiors instead of sprinting when you feel it building
  • Stop at the first queasy signal, and look at something still and far away until it passes

The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the original Dying Light have a head bob setting?

None is documented. A December 2025 Steam post asks how to turn head bobbing off and finds only Dying Light 2 instructions. Dying Light 2 added a Head Bob Reduction slider, and the original did not get one. Field of view, motion blur, chromatic aberration and film grain are the options you can change.

What settings help with motion sickness in Dying Light (2015)?

Raise the field of view, which goes up to 75 degrees vertical in game. Turn motion blur off. Switch off chromatic aberration, which a 2016 patch made a toggle, and film grain, which a 2015 patch made optional. The notes do not name the menu, so look through the video options.

Is Dying Light 2 the same for motion sickness?

No. Dying Light 2 has a Head Bob Reduction slider and its own settings stack, and it has a separate page here. The original has the four options on this page and no head bob switch.
