DCS World Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
DCS World is a first-person combat flight simulator built around separate aircraft modules. No source we opened documents a motion sickness menu. FlyAwaySimulation's guide says zoom changes the camera's field of view, with NumPad * and NumPad / on many default profiles. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes show cockpit shake and view shake being tuned for individual aircraft, and they show a Special options tab where module settings sit. Checked October 2026.

Why DCS World can trigger motion sickness
A cockpit view fills the screen with a fixed panel while the horizon tilts and the aircraft shakes. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes describe vibration and cockpit shake being set for each aircraft, so how much the view moves depends on the module you fly. The patch notes describe the shake being reduced for the F4U-1D and added as an animation for the remastered F-5E. They name no global setting for it.
- Cockpit shake and vibration, which Eagle Dynamics tunes for each aircraft
- Rolling and high-G manoeuvres that tilt the whole horizon
- A field of view that does not match your screen, since it is set with the zoom keys

Comfort settings in DCS World
DCS World ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
No source we opened lists a global camera shake, head bob or motion blur option. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes describe shake tuned per aircraft, and they show module settings under the Special tab of the Options menu. Check that tab for the aircraft you fly.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Field of view (zoom) | Zoom keys: NumPad * zooms in, NumPad / zooms out, NumPad Enter restores normal zoom (many default profiles; check Options > Controls) | Set a zoom level that feels steady and use NumPad Enter to return to normal. FlyAwaySimulation notes that zoom narrows the camera's field of view and that keys can differ by profile. |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings
- Set the field of view with the zoom keys before a long flight, then judge it over a full sortie
- Check the Special tab in the Options menu for settings on the aircraft you fly
- At the first sign of queasiness, stop, look at a fixed point away from the screen and slow your breathing
The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
Frequently asked questions
Does DCS World have a field of view setting?
Yes, through zoom. FlyAwaySimulation's guide says zoom narrows the virtual camera's field of view, with NumPad * to zoom in, NumPad / to zoom out and NumPad Enter for normal zoom on many default profiles. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes we opened do not describe it.
Does DCS World have a camera shake option?
No global option appears in the sources we opened. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes describe view shake being decreased for the F4U-1D and cockpit shake animations added to the remastered F-5E, which means the amount depends on the aircraft.
Where are aircraft-specific options in DCS World?
In the Special tab of the Options menu. Eagle Dynamics' patch notes give the example OPTIONS > SPECIAL > CH-47F > TCL BRAKE MODE, and they also mention a Misc tab.
