Atomic Heart Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps

Atomic Heart is a first-person shooter. Mundfish added FOV settings in Patch 1.3.4.0 in March 2023, which PCGamesN described as a highly requested FOV slider, and a Disable camera shake accessibility option in Patch 1.14.4.0. Those are the two comfort settings in Mundfish's patch notes. The notes give no menu path for either. Checked October 2026.

Why Atomic Heart can trigger motion sickness

A first-person view moves with every turn, dodge and shot. PCGamesN reported that update 1.3.4 finally lets you change FOV settings. Camera shake adds movement you did not ask for. Mundfish now gives you a setting for each. The notes name no head bob or motion blur setting, so those are not claimed.

  • A field of view you could not change at launch, until Patch 1.3.4.0
  • Camera shake, which Patch 1.14.4.0 lets you disable
  • Fast first-person combat, where the whole view moves with each dodge and shot

SettingWhereRecommendation
Field of viewIn-game settingsRaise it in small steps and keep the value that feels steadiest. Mundfish's notes say Patch 1.3.4.0 added FOV settings on all platforms.
Disable camera shakeIn-game settingsOn. Mundfish lists it among the accessibility features added in Patch 1.14.4.0.

One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings

  • Open the options first: raise the field of view in small steps and turn camera shake off
  • Take breaks between fights and areas rather than playing for hours without a stop
  • At the first sign of queasiness, stop, look at a fixed point away from the screen and slow your breathing

The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
