Why ARK: Survival Ascended (and Survival Evolved) can trigger motion sickness

ARK keeps you moving over a large map, on foot and on mounts. In Survival Evolved the camera bobs when you walk in first person, shakes when big creatures pass, and smooths your movement in third person. The ARK wiki says turning off view bob, motion blur or third-person smoothing may reduce motion sickness there. For Ascended, only the field of view slider and the camera section path are confirmed.

  • View bob while you walk in first person (Survival Evolved)
  • Camera shake when big creatures move near you (Survival Evolved)
  • Smoothing on the third-person camera when you look around (Survival Evolved)

One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

What helps beyond the settings

  • Raise the field of view in small steps
  • In Survival Evolved, turn off Camera View Bob and Motion Blur, and lower Camera Shake Scale
  • Play in shorter sessions, and look at a fixed point away from the screen when you feel queasy

The fixes people reach for once they step away from the screen are covered separately, with the trials attached: the remedy verdicts.
