7 Days to Die Motion Sickness: Why It Happens & What Helps
7 Days to Die added full third-person camera support in V2.5, released on December 18, 2025. You switch views with a quick-toggle keybind, and the new camera has its own field of view and distance settings in Video > Display. The first-person field of view slider and a motion blur setting also exist. One catch: a server host can lock everyone to first person.

Why 7 Days to Die can trigger motion sickness
Walking, sprinting and fighting in first person moves the whole picture with you, and the game adds camera shake from concussions and stuns and optional blur effects on top. V2.5 gives you a way out: a third-person view that sits outside the character. The Fun Pimps made the third-person field of view a separate slider and let you set the camera distance. The host's server settings decide whether you can use it.
- Camera shake from concussions and stuns, which patch notes mention
- Motion blur and depth of field effects, which the game's wiki lists as video options
- Servers that lock the camera to first person

Comfort settings in 7 Days to Die
7 Days to Die ships some comfort settings, but not a full set.
A server host can lock every player to one camera mode. The V2.5 notes add a CameraRestrictionMode setting to serverconfig.xml, where 0 lets players swap freely, 1 restricts them to first person and 2 restricts them to third person. On a server set to 1, the third-person view is not available.
| Setting | Where | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Default Camera Mode | Video > Display | Third person, if first person bothers you. You can also toggle it in game, unless the server restricts the camera mode |
| 3rd Person Field of View | Video > Display | Raise it for a wider third-person view. It is separate from the first-person slider |
| 3rd Person Camera Distance | Video > Display | Adjust it until the character sits where the view feels steady |
| Field of View (first person) | Options > Video | Raise it in small steps. V2.5 keeps it separate from the third-person slider |
| Motion Blur | Options > Video | Off. The wiki page that lists it predates V2.5, so confirm the menu |
One guide explains these settings for every game: how field of view, motion blur, head bob and camera shake trigger motion sickness.

- Set Default Camera Mode to third person in Video > Display, and adjust the 3rd Person Field of View.
- In first person, raise the field of view and turn Motion Blur off.
- Take a break between day cycles, and stop at the first queasy signal.
