iPhone Liquid Glass motion sickness: the settings that calm it
If the Liquid Glass look on iPhone leaves you dizzy or queasy, start with Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion, which Apple says tones down Liquid Glass animation more reliably since iOS 26.4. Then make the glass less see-through: on iOS 27, drag the slider at Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass toward tinted; on iOS 26.1 and later iOS 26 versions, choose Tinted at Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. Reduce Transparency goes further still.

Why Liquid Glass can make you queasy
Liquid Glass is the design Apple introduced with iOS 26. Buttons, tab bars and menus became translucent: Apple describes a material that reflects and refracts what sits behind it, catches highlights as the phone moves, and changes shape as you scroll or tap. So when a feed slides under a see-through bar or a menu morphs open, your eyes get extra movement to track while your inner ear reports that you are sitting still. That mismatch is the core of cybersickness. A second effect is optical: after iOS 26 shipped in September 2025, Reddit users reported that dark mode icons looked tilted, and Android Authority traced it to a highlight on each icon's upper left corner. Some of those users said it left them feeling off-balance.
What actually helps
Where the setting lives
- Calm the animation
Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion - iOS 27: the Liquid Glass slider
Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass, then drag toward tintedReported by MacRumors on 14 September 2026, the day iOS 27 shipped. Confirm the menu on your own iPhone. - iOS 26.1 and later iOS 26 versions
Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass > TintedAdded in iOS 26.1, per Apple's iOS 26 release notes. iOS 27 replaces this choice with the slider above. - Least see-through look
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency - Fewer flashes when you tap (iOS 26.4 and later)
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Bright EffectsPath as reported by 9to5Mac on 22 April 2026. Apple's iOS 26.4 notes confirm the setting.
- Turn on Reduce Motion first, at Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion. Apple's notes for iOS 26.4 say it now reduces Liquid Glass animation more reliably, so if you switched it on earlier and felt no change, update and check again.
- Make the glass less see-through. On iOS 27, drag the Liquid Glass slider at Settings > Appearance toward tinted. On iOS 26.1 or a later iOS 26 version, choose Tinted at Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass.
- For the flattest look, turn on Reduce Transparency at Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. It swaps most of the translucent layers for solid backgrounds.
- If bright flashes when you tap buttons or type bother you, turn on Reduce Bright Effects in the same Display & Text Size menu. It arrived in iOS 26.4.
- If icons that look tilted are the problem, switch back to the default icon style and pick a more colorful wallpaper, the fixes Phandroid suggested. The tilt illusion was reported as worst in dark mode and with pure black wallpapers.
- The settings calm the interface, not the content. A video or a fast feed still moves, so slow the scroll, hold the phone farther away and take a break before nausea builds.

Frequently asked questions
Why does iOS 26 make me dizzy?
Liquid Glass puts more movement and translucency on screen than the design before it: tab bars that shrink and expand as you scroll, menus that change shape, highlights that shift as the phone moves. If you are prone to cybersickness, extra on-screen motion while your body sits still is a familiar trigger. After iOS 26 shipped, Phandroid covered user reports of dizziness, eye strain and vertigo, and Apple's iOS 26.4 notes describe a Reduce Motion change for users sensitive to on-screen motion.
How do I tone down Liquid Glass on iPhone?
Use up to four settings. Reduce Motion, at Settings > Accessibility > Motion, calms the animation. On iOS 27, dragging the Liquid Glass slider at Settings > Appearance to the right adds tint and opacity; on iOS 26 the Tinted option sits at Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. Reduce Transparency, at Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, swaps most of the glass for solid backgrounds, and Reduce Bright Effects in the same menu cuts the flashes when you tap.
Does Reduce Motion stop Liquid Glass animations?
It reduces them. Apple's notes for iOS 26.4 say Reduce Motion now reduces Liquid Glass animations more reliably, so if you turned it on in an earlier iOS 26 version and noticed little change, update and look again. It does not stop the content you scroll through from moving, so a slower scroll and more distance from the screen still matter.
Does the Tinted setting help with dizziness?
It can make the screen calmer. Apple says the tinted look increases the opacity of the material, so less of the moving content behind buttons and bars shows through. Whether that is enough depends on the person. If it is not, Reduce Transparency goes further, and pairing either one with Reduce Motion covers the animation as well as the see-through layers.
Is this the same as the iPhone motion sickness dots?
No. The dots are Vehicle Motion Cues, a separate setting for using your iPhone as a passenger, at Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Vehicle Motion Cues. They help when the car moves and your screen does not. Liquid Glass discomfort is the opposite case: the screen moves while you sit still, so Reduce Motion and the transparency settings are the ones to change.
