Not really. Shanghai Disneyland is carried by modern trackless and boat dark rides, and only a few attractions deliver strong physical motion. The shortlist: TRON Lightcycle Power Run launches riders in a leaned-forward motorcycle crouch, Rex's Racer flings a shuttle train up both ends of a half-pipe with repeated weightless direction changes, Roaring Rapids spins rafts through churning water, and Soaring Over the Horizon hangs you in front of a giant dome screen, mixing heights with screen motion. That is the whole danger list. Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure and Voyage to the Crystal Grotto are slow boats, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit is a gentle trackless chase, and Fantasyland is built for small kids. Plan around four rides and the park is yours.

The rides most likely to set you off

Rex's Racer is the sneaky worst: a shuttle half-pipe that reverses direction over and over, and repeated weightless direction changes disorient the inner ear faster than any single big drop.

Where to reset between rides

When your stomach needs a break, head for Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit or Peter Pan's Flight. Slow visuals, a fixed horizon and a seat that is not spinning give your inner ear time to settle before the next big ride.

Your survival plan for Shanghai Disneyland

  1. 1

Ride TRON Lightcycle Power Run at rope drop; the leaned-forward launch is easier on a fresh, unfed stomach.

  2. 2

Decide on Rex's Racer by watching one full cycle first; the back-and-forth looks tame from the ground and is not.

  3. 3

Save Roaring Rapids for the hottest hour; a soaking becomes a feature, and cutting heat also cuts queasiness.

  4. 4

On Soaring Over the Horizon, sit in the center of your row and rest your eyes on the horizon of the film if your stomach stirs.

  5. 5

Recover in the boats; Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure and Voyage to the Crystal Grotto are long, slow, and calm enough to reset.

  6. 6

Bring headphones and run a Dizzout sound therapy session at the first sign of queasiness; most people feel better in about 90 seconds.

Going with kids

Zootopia and Fantasyland are very small-kid friendly; TRON needs a 48 in minimum height.

Common questions

Is TRON at Shanghai Disneyland bad for motion sickness?+

Less than it looks. The launch is quick and intense, but the ride is short and mostly smooth, and speed alone is a weaker trigger than spinning or screens. If you handle ordinary coasters, the motorcycle posture is the strange part, not the motion.

What is the worst ride at Shanghai Disneyland for a queasy stomach?+

Rex's Racer, not TRON. The half-pipe shuttles you forward and backward repeatedly with weightless moments at each end, and repeated direction changes are one of the fastest ways to get dizzy. Roaring Rapids adds spin plus churning water and is the runner-up.

What can you ride at Shanghai Disneyland if you get motion sick easily?+

Most of the park. Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, Peter Pan's Flight, and Zootopia: Hot Pursuit are all gentle, and shows and gardens fill the gaps. Only TRON, Rex's Racer, Roaring Rapids, and Soaring Over the Horizon need caution.
